    Four days Skill Enhancement program on “Extraction Methods and Herbal Products” had various events like 8 invited talks by experts from Industry and academia, 7 demonstration and hands on sessions, one facility visit to Vriksha Vijnan Pvt Ltd, a start up company located in Subramanyapura, Bengaluru and an Industry visit cum workshop on medicinal plants, mushroom cultivation and bio fertilizers at Bio Center, Hulimavu, Bengaluru.

    Guest talk was organized titled "Bytes and Brainwaves: Harnessing Neuroinformatics for Health"

    Ms. Neha Prasanna, Ph.D Researcher, Université libre de Bruxelles gave a talk on how neuroinformatics can be used to understand and develop treatments for diseases. Discussed different models available to understand the neuron function. The use of a multi-scale computational model of Levodopa-induced toxicity in Parkinson’s disease was discussed for better understanding of the application of neuroinformatics.

    The aim of this workshop is to introduce researchers to the field of Chemoinformatics, especially in the areas of Structure-Based Drug Design (SBDD) and Ligand-Based Drug Design (LBDD). This will cover the use of retrieval of protein and ligands from databases, molecular docking and demo on MD Simulations.

    National Science Day 2023

    A two-day event was held on 16th and 17th March 2023, on the theme released by the Department of Science and Technology, India titled “Global Science for Global Wellbeing”. National Science Day celebrations 2023 were held at the Department of Biotechnology on 16th and 17th March 2023, with all the students and faculty of the Department. Every year the event is organized for the students to realize the importance of technology updation and activity-based learning.

    Webinar on “Clinical Trial Data Analytics - Demystifying Career” was conducted on 26th April 2023, with Mr Peyush Rajput, MD-Founder & CEO, KITE-Ai Technologies Pvt.     Recent Advances in Smart-Sustainable Materials for Chemical and Biological Applications

    Department of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology jointly organized 5 Day Faculty Development Program on “Recent Advances in Smart-sustainable Materials for Chemical and Biological Applications– RASMCB-2022” from 14th -18th November, 2022. The programme was conducted on hybrid mode followed by industry visit to ITC food factory at Peenya on the final day.


    Genome Editing: Understanding the concept and Application

    A 5 day program on“Genome Editing: Understanding the concept and application” organized by Dr. N. Rajeswari, and Sponsored by Vision Group on Science & Technology (VGST) from 28th February to 4th March, 2022. More than 30 participants (faculty and Research Scholars) from various institutions across Karnataka attended the five day program. Dr. K K Narayanan, Director and CEO, AgriGenome Labs Pvt. Ltd., Ernakulam, Kerala gave the keynote address. The program provided an excellent platform for understanding the emerging Genome editing technology, collaborative endeavor, exchange of ideas and interaction among scientists, industry experts and academicians involved in advanced research pertaining to nutraceuticals, health, and Environment through genome editing technology.

    A two day event held on 24th and 25th March 2022, on the theme released by Department of Science and Technology, India titled “Integrated Approch in Science and Technology for a sustainable future”. National Science Day celebrations 2022 were held at the department of Biotechnology on 24th and 25th March with all the students and faculty of the Department. Every year the event is organized for the students to realize the importance of technology updation and activity based learning.

    A guest lecture was arranged for the students on 24th March on the topic “Food Technology For Sustainable Future – CSIR-CFTRI’s Contribution” by Dr. Sathyendra Rao B. V, Chief Scientist and Head of technology Transfer and Business Development at CFTRI, Mysore. The lecture was attended virtually by the students and faculty of the department.

An invited talk on: “Food Technology for a sustainable future, CSIR-CFTRI’s contribution” by Dr. Sathyendra Rao B.     Topic:Tale of the Vaccine Trail

    This event was held on 05/07/2021 under the banner of DSCE ADDA. A good number of students of all semesters of biotech department enrolled for the B.E. program took part in this event. There were a total number of 9 participants who spoke about the various COVID-19 vaccines available such as the ones from Pfizer, Sputnik V, Janssen, EpiVac Corona etc.

    The objectives of this event were as follows:

    • To encourage the students to update their familiarity with different types of vaccine technology existing in the world till today.
    • To create a platform for students to enhance their knowledge regarding the available COVID vaccines and its developmental milestones.
    • To appreciate the students for their participation and involvement in the event.

     


    Topic:Mini Picasso’s

    This event was held on 21/06/2021 under the banner of DSCE ADDA. A good number of students of all semesters of biotech department enrolled for the B.E. program took part in this by submitting their art work.

    The objectives of this event were as follows:

    • To encourage students to acknowledge their non-academic activities.
    • To appreciate the students for their talent.
    • To create a platform for students of similar interests to come forward with new ideas and themes in art and paintings.

     


    Topic:Locked but not Limited

    This session was held on 12/06/2021 under the banner of DSCE ADDA. The session was attended by all the biotech department faculty along with the students of all semesters of biotech department enrolled for the B.E. program. Ms.Gayathri and Ms.Aisiri hosted this event.

    The objectives of this event were as follows:

    • To learn more about the students to know their interests and activities.
    • To engage the students in a friendly interaction so that they can share their ideas and time with their peers.
    • To develop a platform of interaction for students of all semesters.

     


    Topic:An Interactive session with 6th semester students

    This session was held on 04/06/2021 under the banner of DSCE ADDA. The session was attended by all the biotech department faculty along with the 6th semester students of biotech department enrolled for the B.E. program. Dr. Kiran S. addressed the students during this interaction.

    The objectives of this event were as follows:

    • To interact with the students to know their whereabouts
    • To assure the student community that the department is there for them whenever they need us.
    • To assure them with all assistance and help required by them for any subjects, projects, internships etc.
    • To introduce them to the various key organizations where they can look out for interships and mini projects.
    • To remind them of online programs and course portals such as Course Era, EDX platforms etc.

    DSCE ADDA -2020

    Department of Biotechnology, DSCE organized first year welcome event on 19th November, 2020, at 10am. Our event included a welcome message from Dr. Kiran. S, Head of the Department. During the event, students and Faculty introduced themselves. Finally the event concluded with a live online question- and – answer session and outline of higher studies and career opportunities in bio-sectors..

    Department of Biotechnology along with Institutions’ Innovation Council (MHRD Initiative, Government of India) organized an online Webinar entitled “Accelerators / incubation- opportunities for students & Faculties- Early stage Entreperneurs” on 28th June-2021. Talk was delivered by Dr. Shruthi. S.D, Founder, BioEdge Solutions, Bengaluru

    This was the second activity held on 28/06/2021 under the Quarter IV. The title of the webinar was under the theme: “Accelerators/Incubation - Opportunities for Students & Faculties – Early Stage Entrepreneurs”. The program was conducted through the google meet platform.

    The speaker gave several examples of the current trends and market strategies that are in demand in the field of biotechnology. The students were able to link it to their courses and in a way, it was a program specific session also. Through this talk the participants were not only made aware of the opportunities available, but the requirements and features an individual needs to become a successful entrepreneur.

    The objectives of the talk were as follows:

    • To introduce the participants to the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and new opportunities available.
    • To help the participants in understanding the support systems available for students and faculty in the field of skill development and entrepreneurship opportunities.
    • To create awareness regarding the various business and technology incubators present in India and within Karnataka.

    The skills the listeners would have acquired by this activity are:

    • An idea about Start up India, International Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology and successful ventures such as the Bangalore Bioinnovation Center
    • The importance of identifying support systems within the State of Karnataka such as GOK NASSCOM, K-Tech Innovation Hub, Technology Business Incubators such as IISc- CenSE, Brownfield Cluster etc.
    • Information about the Networking Organizations such as CWE, AWAKE, WIFE, FIWE etc.
    • Knowledge about the Atal Innovation Mission, BIRAC leap fund.

    Star Performers of this event were Dr. Blessy Baby Mathew, Assistant Professor from the Department of Biotechnology and Ms. Aisiri, student from VI sem of B.E. in Biotechnology program. There were 101 participants, including students of our institution, faculties and the speaker. The students interacted along with the speaker in a positive note clarifying their doubts regarding innovation support. The session helped students to increase their awareness and practice the skills and discipline necessary to enhance their confidence, knowledge and skills sets

Talk was delivered by Dr. Jitendra Kumar, managing director and head, Bangalore Bio innovation Centre (BBC).

    Department of Biotechnology along with Institutions’ Innovation Council (MHRD Initiative, Government of India) organized an online Webinar entitled “Prototype validation- converting Prototype into a startup” on 25th June-2021. Talk was delivered by Mr. Vijay Nadiminti, CEO, AGHubm Agri Innovation hub, PJTSAU, Ex-COO, a- IDAEA Technology Business incubator of NAARM

    This was the first activity held on 25/06/2021 under the Quarter IV. The title of the webinar was under the theme: “Prototype Validation – Converting Prototype into a Start-up”. The program was conducted through the google meet platform. If a start-up has a unique unpatented invention, larger rivals can easily copy, manufacture, and market it, effectively negating the start-up's effort to create its invention. So, through this talk the participants were not only made aware of the opportunities available, but also regarding the threats.

    The objectives of the talk were as follows:

    • To introduce the basics of developing a new product, creating functional and non-functional requirements required for a start-up
    • To help the participants in understanding tactical implementation of product strategy and product roadmap
    • To create awareness regarding the significance of have an apt prototype model and its assessment according to the demand of market

    The skills the listeners would have acquired by this activity are:

    • An idea about the steps to validation, ensuring that how one is using the resources wisely
    • The importance of addressing changes during the development process, doing changes before the process begins, validating one’s product requirements, eliminating costly changes in a course etc
    • Knowledge about the by-products of the validation process and the buy-in one gains from users and internal teams
    • Validating the requirements with customers, testers and engineers before the product is built, considering their opinions were some other gains from the talk.

    Star Performers of this event were Mrs. Bhanu Revathi K, Assistant Professor from the Department of Biotechnology and Ms. Pragna Srinivas, student from VIII sem of B.E. in Biotechnology program. There were 101 participants, including students of our institution, faculties and the speaker. The students interacted along with the speaker in a positive note clarifying their doubts regarding validation and innovation. This helped students to increase their awareness and practice the skills and discipline necessary to enhance their confidence, knowledge and skills sets. Several students posed questions to the speaker and the session was highly interactive and beneficial to the students

    Dr S.K.Rawal, Director Ajeet Seeds delivered the first A R Mehta Memorial Award Lecture. It was attended by over 500 students, delegates and invited speakers ( Dr Jitendra Prakash - In Vitro International, Dr Shiva Prakash- Agri Maa Biosciences, -who are the stalwarts in the field of Plant Biotechnology. It was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr S.B. Dandin, Former Director of Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Mysore and Founder Vice Chancellor of University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, Karnataka, Presided by Prof Muthuchelian, Hon'ble Pro Vice Chancellor of DSU and Dr C.P.S Prakash, Principal,DSCE. Dr. Kiran S, Professor & Head, Department of Biotechnology proposed a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries who have witnessed it as a memorable and successful event. We had a poster session by young researchers, and poster awards were given for the best presentation.
