World Earth Day was celebrated at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering on 23rd April 2022 through our Nature club Prakruthi in association with ISHA foundation, Bengaluru. Dr. C.P.S. Prakash, Principal hosted the event by a tree plantation. Mr. Vishnu Nidhin, ISHA volunteer addressed the students and faculty about the Save Soil Movement and explained the responsibilities of each one to save the mother earth. All the students and faculty supported the Save Soil Movement.

Prakruthi-Nature club, DSCE is a student centric club which is first of its kind initiated in the campus towards saving our Mother Nature, started by Department of Physics, DSCE mainly aiming at our contribution to a nature friendly DSI campus at a small scale and extending to the nearby places within the surrounding of the college at a large scale. To meet the mission of the club, every semester many activities are organized under club such as Plantation programs, Field trips, talks by subject experts on issues like challenges in maintaining cleaner and safer environment, solid waste management, Kitchen gardening, Terrace gardening, Composting are few of the topics to name. This webinar on “Technology: Aid to Municipal Solid Waste Management” was organized on 24th of November 2020, on Zoom platform.

“Prakruthi” the nature club of DSCE with objectives to plant trees in and around the college campus, to achieve cleaner and greener campus by educating the society about managing kitchen waste, to get attached with government/private centers working for the betterment of nature ,to educate the youths about their roles and contributions for meeting the aims of the club, conducted a workshop on “Kitchen and terrace gardening for safe and balanced environment” on 11-03-19 by Mr.Vishwanath P D (Officer, Horticulture department, Lalbagh, Bangalore). The program started with a welcome address by Dr.Priya Hoskeri (faculty coordinator).Then the speaker gave a vast information on how to utilize the available space at our premises and turn the space in to small in/out door gardens. This gave the audience an idea to manage available space and come up with a personalized garden which requires less space, easy to maintained greenery that gives satisfaction of being one with our mother nature. Further the speaker highlighted about how to set up a terrace garden and types of plants that can be selected to suite our kitchen and medicinal requirements which are free from huge amount of pesticides. The speaker showed the different methods of setting up terrace gardening and highlighted on after-care procedure to maintain the garden. As a tradition followed by the club a sapling plantation was also done by speaker along-with our Principal Dr C P S Prakash, Vice Principal Dr. H Ramakrishna and Dr. C M Joseph, HOD Physics. A pledge was then sworn by all the participants and a vote of thanks was given by the student representative Mr Kiran, Around 80 students witnessed the event gaining the knowledge on the topic. Program  :  One day training on ‘Terrace gardening” by Nature club

Venue      :  Horticulture training center, DSCE.

A one day training on Terrace gardening on behalf of Prakruthi, Nature club, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering was conducted on 24-03-2018 (Saturday) in Horticulture training center, Bangalore. Members of the club were the participants along with faculty coordinator Dr. Priya Hoskeri and Dr. Naveen S M. The session was on ‘Terrace gardening’ by Mr. Vishwanath, organic certification Inspector of the horticulture department. The session started with the registration procedure and then a small introduction to the horticulture department was given by the authorities and a basic information on what is the need for terrace gardening and how to proceed with it and to set up and maintain were highlighted. The information given in the introduction part mentioned that for terrace gardening most of the sun loving trees need at least 8 hours of direct sun light and shade loving trees need varied degrees of less intense light (shade), the plants also need good and deep soil.
The basic steps to set up terrace gardening were demonstrated and a visual tour was scheduled for a real time understanding of the concept. The members of the club were enlightened with the knowledge gained during the session. Students and faculty coordinators sincerely thank our HOD, Vice principal, Principal and the Management for facilitating us to attend the training programme.

Nature Club Prakruthi was inaugurated by Dr. C P S Prakash and Vice Principal Dr. Ramesh Babu D R along with Dr. C M Joseph, HOD Physics and Dr. Priya A H, faculty coordinator. Principal mentioned the importance of the Nature Club in such a vast campus and expressed his support to all the activities to be conducted in the near future. .

Our nature club is first of its kind initiated in the campus towards saving our mother nature.Started by Department of Physics, DSCE mainly aims at our contribution to a nature friendly DSI campus at a small scale and extending to near by places within the surrouding in and around the college at a large scale.Our nature club was consituted with first year students as club members and aims at improving the diversity of plant life at our campus.The thought of coming up with the club specifically aiming at saving nature started with the selection of committee members and defining the aims and objectives of the club
