Converting Innovation into A Startup

Program started with welcoming the speaker and his introduction by Mrs. Deekshita Arasa, Asst. Prof, EEE department. The main objective behind conduction of Seminar was to educate students as how to analyse their ideas of innovation, and how to convert it into a Start-Up and to motivate them to enter the world of Entrepreneurship.

Power Connect

IEEE PES DSCE student chapter organized Power connect 2024 on 22nd of June 2024 with the aim of giving a platform for the students to interact with the industry experts and also leverage the benefits of being IEEE member as a student as well as a graduate.

Industrial visit to DERBI

Industrial visit to Dayananda Sagar Entrepreneurship Research & Business Incubator (DERBI) Foundation was organized on 24th of May 2024 for 6th semester students. Mrs. Bhavani briefed us on various funding . schemes that are available to the innovators and helped the students to understand the funding ecosystem

Project Open Day

The Open Day project exhibition of the EEE department was conducted on 11th of May 2024. The project exhibition started at 09:30 AM and lasted till 5:00 PM. There were two parallel sessions to evaluate 34 project batches.

Transformers - A Tutorial Introduction

A tech talk on Transformers - A Tutorial Introduction. was delivered by Dr. Bhubala Srihari,Chief Architect in ADAS Continental Automotive Components India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore for 4th semester students on 9th of May 2024. This talk was arranged by Dr. Gopisetty Manikanta, Assistant Professor.

Maximizing Research Impact: Unveilling the latest IEEE Xplore Enhancements

Dr. Sumana S, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, DSCE organized an awareness talk on “Maximizing Research Impact: Unveilling the latest IEEE Xplore Enhancements”, on 6th of May 2024 for IV & VI semester students. Talk given by M S Srinivasa, IEEE training manager, EBSCO Information services. The speaker explained the effective way of using IEEE Xplore for the research and project purposes.

PES Day

The IEEE PES Student chapter of the department celebrated PES Day on 22nd April 2024. The day was celebrated with number o f events to get the students engaged in technical activities as they had competed and had fun.

E-Lagori Workshop

Students of the E-Lagori system development club visited the E lagori campus for hands on training on the usage of the various boards and learning to build prototypes using the E lagori boards on 6th of April 2024.

FDP on “Innovation, Incubation, Startup Support, and Research Challenges”

Innovation, Incubation, Startup Support, and Research Challenges 5-Days NISP sponsored FDP was conducted from 01st to 05th April 2024, in which around 25 Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department participants participated.

Recent Developments and Trends in Electrical Engineering

A International Webinar Series on “Recent Developments and Trends in Electrical Engineering” (Webinar Series 2: AI Applications in Microgrid) 5 day FDP (Online) was conducted from 12th to 16th March 2024 in which around 254 members from different parts of the world are registered and 160 participants are participated in this webinar.

Create-A-Thon 5.0

Create-A-Thon 5.0 is an annual national level hackathon event that is organised by IEEE PES DSCE student chapter in collaboration with the department of Electrical and Electronics of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore, sponsored by Derbi foundation on 10th and 11th of February 2024.

Research Awareness, Guidelines, Metrics, Ethics & Tools

Dr Premkumar M, Associate Professor and HOD, delivered a talk on “RESEARCH AWARENESS, GUIDELINES, METRICS, ETHICS AND TOOLS” to all the faculty members of the department on 10th of February 2024. He gave awareness about the following topics.

Placement Activity

Communication plays a vital role during the various rounds of placement that students go through in campus as well as off campus. Ability to communicate fluently and putting across a point of view is critical during the interactions in the placement rounds

RC Car Building Workshop

The Tinkreate-EEE and IEEE PES DSCE conducted a workshop on building and RC car to provide a basic introduction to robotics on 16th of January. Students at the RC car workshop delved into the intricacies Through hands-on exploration of L298 Motor Drivers, NRF 2401L+, and 433MHz RF modules, they mastered the art of circuitry and communication. Guided by Arduino Nano, participants brought their engineering prowess to life, crafting fully operational RC cars and gaining invaluable skills in the process.

Career guidance and Personality development

Deekshitha Arasa, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, DSCE organized a talk on “Career guidance and Personality development”, 08/1/2024 for 5th semester students. Talk given by Mr. Palaksh Rungta, Machine Learning Engineer, Youtube Shots Recommendations.

Webinar-on ‘ Covid-19 Impacts on Solar Energy Projects’

A webinar has been organized on 13-6-2020 for 6th semester students. The speaker is Mr.P.Kumar, CEO & Director, VRM Energy Consultancy Services Pvt.Ltd. ,Chennai. Around 100 students have joined the webinar. Webinar was informative and students have actively interacted with the speaker at the end of the session. Dr. DhanaLakshmi is the faculty co-ordinator for this event.

A webinarwas arranged by EEE department on ‘Electrical Switch gear and its Applications’ in association with’ Universal Power Controls’.

UNIVERSAL POWER CONTROLS is professionally run company with 30 years of experience in Manufacturing of Electrical Control Panel .They Manufacture Panels like Power Control Centre PCC, Motor Control Centre MCC, Automatic Power Factor Correction Panels APFC, Mimic, Automation, and Custom Built Panels.

Around 80 students have participated in the webinar. The webinar was for the duration of 2 hours. The topics covered during the session were.

• Basics of Electrical included topics covering AC principles, Electrical symbols used in industries, 1 phase & 3 phase, how to read drawing, different types of contactors, NO-NC Auxiliary Contacts, Timers, Push buttons, CT’s etc.
• Demonstration of Semi-& Fully Automatic Star Delta : Starting of Motor, Control Circuit Power Circuit, troubleshooting & Selection of components.
• Demonstration of Remote On &Off : of Motor, Control & Power Wiring.
• APFC Panels: Construction of Automatic Power Factor Correction Panels, Power factor improvement.

Online quiz conducted on 23rd May,2020

Electrical and Electronics Engineering department had conducted an online quiz and certification program “High Voltage Engineering” on 23rd may 2020, which helped students to test and enhance their knowledge in High Voltage Engineering. This event was conducted by A M Nagaraj & Vidya M. The quiz contained with 20 MCQ questions which has been created using Google forms.

A total of 557 students from various engineering colleges in and out of Karnataka have participated. E-Certificates were given to those who have scored 60% and above. There were 51 students from other states and 505 students from various Engineering colleges of Karnataka.

Online parents- Teachers Meet

Online Parents – Teachers meeting was held on 16/05/2020 . Professor & HoD Dr. P. Usha has welcomed the parents and explained about Vision, Mission of E&EE department. She has also detailed about the digital interactions made by E&EE faculty with students. The issues discussed were online classes held during lockdown, syllabus coverage, students’ academic progress. The faculty members attended the meeting were Dr. Balaji N , Dr. P B Savitha and Mr. Ganesh G C, Mrs. Tanuja H. Mrs. Tanuja was the coordinator of this event.

March Report

Technical talk on “LEDs and their applications”

Technical talk on “LEDs and their applications” was delivered by Dr. B K Chandrashekar, Managing Committee Member, ILSE -KSC on 05/03/2020. The applications of LEDs were explained in detail. The applications include aviation lighting, automotive headlamps, advertising, general lighting, traffic signals, camera flashes, lighted wallpaper, horticultural grow lights, and medical devices. The talk was very informative and interesting.

Engineering conclave was conducted on 07/03/2020. The invited industry expert was Mr.Gokulmuthu Naryanaswamy. Mr.Gokulmuthu Narayanaswamy works as a Senior Principal Software Engineer at Itron, one of the world’s leading provider of Smart Metering solutions.

He has more than 20 years of experience in the software industry. He has been working on a wide range of technologies like compilers, embedded systems, distributed computing, highly available and scalable systems, VoIP, web and mobile applications. At Itron, he drives the development of Edge Computing infrastructure and applications. He also manages some components of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).

There was an elaborate discussion on the curriculum with him. Few suggestions given by him are to include more lab / hands on session than theory classes, to arrange workshops for few courses and for electives and for the numerical based subjects exclusively use modern tool such as MATLAB, PSPICE ,PSACAD, etc

Women’s day was celebrated in the department on 09/03/2020, organized by members of IEEE-PES student chapter. Few events conducted were quiz, riddles.

Open seminar was given by Mr Suresh Babu on 13-03-2020. He is research scholar of E&EE department R&D center. He is pursuing his research work under the guidance of Dr. K.Shanmukha Sundar. The title of his research work is ‘ Automatic Generation Control For Grid Stabilization in Coordination with Integrated Renewable Energy Sources’. Few faculty and PG students of E&EE department have attended the seminar.

All the E&EE department faculty are actively interacting with students on line from 18th March . Most of the faculty are using 'zoom app'for online classes. Sharing the links of videos, materials and ppt through 'Google classroom'. The details of this is available

Dr. Harsha Anantwar Assoc. Professor of E&EE department has published a paper on “ PID Controller Tuning using ACO Algorithm for AVR Systems ” in International Journal of Engineering and Advanced Technology (IJEAT) on February, 2020.

Two student groups of E&EE , have been selected for quarter finals round of AICTE, DST & Texas Instruments-" India Innovation Challenge Design Contest 2019(IICDC)", Anchored by IIM. Both the groups have received components from Texas Instruments to build the product.

The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has organized AICTE sponsored two week FDP on “Smart Technologies – ICT, Automation and Power Electronics Applications in Integration of Renewable Energy Sources and Smart Grid” from January 20th to February 1st 2020. There were 45 registrations and participants were from Chickmagalur, Ram Nagaram, Chikkaballapur, and from many colleges of Bangalore.
